Tanzania has made significant efforts to protect children from polio through nationwide vaccination programmes and routine immunisation services. Polio is a highly infectious viral disease that can cause permanent paralysis, particularly among young children, making vaccination one of the most effective ways to prevent it. Tanzania’s health authorities, working with international partners, have focused on ensuring that children receive the recommended doses of the polio vaccine through health facilities and community outreach programmes. These efforts have helped strengthen children’s immunity and reduce the risk of the disease returning to communities.

Despite progress, maintaining high vaccination coverage remains important because polio can still spread across borders if populations are not adequately protected. Tanzania continues to emphasise routine childhood immunisation, public awareness, and surveillance to quickly detect and respond to any possible cases. Vaccination campaigns also play a crucial role in reaching children who may have missed regular doses, especially in remote or underserved areas. By continuing these efforts, Tanzania can protect future generations from polio and contribute to the wider global goal of completely eradicating the disease.
