Ridhwani Jakaya Kikwete, Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and PWD)

Ridhwani Kikwete was born on 16 April 1979 in Tanzania. He is the son of former President Jakaya Kikwete, though his political career has developed through his own electoral and executive path within Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Tanzania’s ruling party.

Ridhwani pursued legal studies and earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), building a foundation in governance and legislative processes before entering national politics. His professional background includes legal and administrative work before he contested an elective office.

He entered Parliament in 2014 after winning the Chalinze Constituency by-election. His father had previously held the seat before he completed his presidential tenure. Following his initial win, He was re-elected as Member of Parliament for Chalinze in 2015 and again in 2020, establishing continuity in the constituency under CCM.

In 2015, he was appointed Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office (Union Affairs and Environment), a position he held until 2022. During this period, he was involved in environmental policy coordination and matters relating to the Union structure between mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

In 2022, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, serving until 2025. This role placed him within one of Tanzania’s key development ministries, dealing with land administration, urban planning, and housing regulation.

In 2025, Ridhwani Kikwete was elevated to full Cabinet rank as Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, responsible for Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities. His portfolio covers employment policy, labour market regulation, youth development initiatives, and disability inclusion frameworks, all of which are central to Tanzania’s demographic and economic strategy.

As of 2026, at 47 years old, Ridhwani represents a younger generation of CCM leadership, moving from by-election MP in 2014 to Cabinet Minister within just over a decade. His trajectory reflects both political continuity and generational transition within the United Republic of Tanzania’s executive structure.
