Humphrey Hesron Polepole
Former Tanzanian Ambassador to Cuba Humphrey Polepole has raised alarm over what he describes as the mysterious disappearance of his sister from her home in Bahari Beach, Dar es Salaam. Polepole recently resigned from his diplomatic post, citing a loss of faith in the country’s governance. In a detailed letter addressed to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Sunday, Polepole described his decision as one born not of haste but of deep reflection on the direction of national leadership.
Polepole transitioned to diplomacy under President Samia. Prior to this, in 2023, the Head of State appointed him Ambassador to Cuba, with regional oversight for Venezuela and Colombia. Before that, from 2022 to 2023, he served as the High Commissioner to Malawi.
Under President John Magufuli, from 2016 to 2021, he served as the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Ideology and Publicity Secretary. He was also a nominated Member of Parliament between 2020 and 2022. He chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Administration and Local Government, making six legislative contributions. In 2015, he served as the District Commissioner for Musoma District for two months, followed by a five-month appointment to the same position in Ubungo District.
Polepole began his career in public service in the Warioba Constitutional Reforms Commission & District Administration following his appointment in April 2012. He played a significant role in Tanzania’s constitutional review process as a member of the Warioba-led Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) during President Jakaya Kikwete’s administration.
