Dr. Aisa Muya, Director of Programmes, Amref Tanzania

Dr. Aisa Nkya Muya is a medical doctor and public health specialist with over 20 years of experience in public health. She has progressive expertise in programme design, implementation, and overall management, having worked with several reputable local and international public health organisations.

 

In her current role as Head of Programmes at Amref Health Africa in Tanzania, she provides strategic oversight and guidance for Amref’s programme portfolio, which comprises more than 20 donor-funded projects implemented across various parts of the country. Her work focuses on ensuring effective programme delivery, accountability, and alignment with national health priorities.

 

Throughout her career, Dr. Muya has held key leadership roles, including Director of Programmes at Management and Development for Health (MDH) and Associate Technical Director at the Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). She has demonstrated progressive responsibilities, from Programme Officer in Monitoring and Evaluation to Programme Director of a large PEPFAR-funded HIV prevention, care, and treatment programme in Tanzania, where she oversaw its growth to an annual budget of USD 16 million.

 

Dr. Muya is also well-versed in institutional capacity-building and health systems strengthening in resource-limited settings. She has worked extensively with multi-donor and multi-funded projects, building strong credibility and partnerships across Tanzania’s health sector.

 

Beyond programme management, Dr Muya collaborates closely with various levels of health sector leadership to facilitate decentralisation and integration of key programmes, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and reproductive and child health services, to ensure continuity of care.

 

She currently serves as the Chairperson of the Board of the White Ribbon Alliance Tanzania, providing leadership in board governance and advocacy for maternal and child health.
