President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to attend the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit scheduled for the 14th – 15th February in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The statement issued by the Presidential Communication Office states that President Samia is expected to participate in the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) meeting, which will be hosted by Kenya’s President William Ruto. 

Furthermore, Tanzania will be completing its term on the AU Peace and Security Council after serving two consecutive terms from 2022 to 2026. The Summit will formally announce AU Leadership for 2026, with Burundi set to assume the chairmanship. Tanzania has been nominated Second Vice Chair, representing Eastern Africa, reflecting Member States’ confidence in Tanzania’s leadership and contribution to continental affairs.
