Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar serves as Minister for Finance in The United Republic of Tanzania where he oversees fiscal policy, budget formulation, domestic revenue mobilisation, and public debt management for the Isles. In this role, he is responsible for steering Tanzania’s annual budget process, strengthening tax administration systems, and ensuring expenditure discipline amid rising development financing needs and regional economic pressures.

A seasoned diplomat and public administrator, Ambassador Omar previously served in senior government roles, including Minister of State in the President’s Office (Labour, Economic Affairs and Investment), where he advanced investment promotion and labour policy reforms. His diplomatic background includes ambassadorial assignments that strengthened Tanzania’s international economic partnerships and development cooperation networks.

In 2026, his portfolio remains central to Tanzania’s fiscal sustainability agenda, particularly in enhancing domestic revenue mobilisation, improving public financial management systems, and supporting priority sectors such as tourism, infrastructure, and trade. His leadership reflects an ongoing effort to balance fiscal consolidation with economic growth while aligning Tanzania’s financial governance with broader regional integration frameworks within the East African Community.
